Translating novels and non-fiction books

Exactly as it sounds.

Germany is the third largest book market in the world. 9 billion euros in sales per year – and over 75,000 new book titles. Yet, 90% of international book trade occurs outside of Germany. Having your books translated is the best way to access readers in other parts of the world.

Our translation agency provides native-speaking specialist translators who can strike the right note, whether they’re translating fact or fiction. After all, it’s not just the tone that makes the music, but also the story. In over 40 languages.

Literary translations

All fiction is unique.

A good novel captivates us. Because we are moved by the content. Because the sound of the words fascinates us. Because the sentence rhythm takes us through a rollercoaster of emotions. It’s extremely difficult to achieve the same effect in another language. That is why literary translations are an art in their own right – in the truest sense of the word. And, because subtle linguistic nuances are key for such translations, we ensure our translators are native speakers. They are able to perfectly capture the linguistic style in the target language so that moods and emotions are conveyed correctly.

Non-fiction translations

Facts come with their own specific terminology.

When it comes to non-fiction books, the aesthetic appeal is usually not important – or at least less so. Above all, it is about the clear and concise presentation of specialist content. Accurate terminology is therefore more important than clever wordplays. That’s why we always select a translator with the appropriate professional background to translate your non-fiction book. Whether it is about medicine, law, technology or economics, our specialist translators always focus on your target audience. And of course, a non-fiction book for academics will be different compared to one for children.

E-book translations

Modern, fast, affordable.

A quarter of all book sales worldwide are already e-books. Readers virtually have an unlimited number of books at their disposal – anytime, anywhere. But authors can also benefit. E-books keep production costs low and enable rapid sales and distribution of books to take place, even abroad. These are two important advantages, especially for independent publishers. We make sure that our customers benefit from these advantages because we translate directly into your document. This means that formatting and file format are retained as well as the legibility of the original. And your book translation will arrive on the international market almost at the same time as the original.

Translations of extensive works

High volume and high quality are not mutually exclusive.

Some book projects can’t be completed just like that. Even native speakers need to familiarise themselves with the language of a good book. And even the most experienced translator of basic scientific work must be particular careful with terminology.

Despite this, we can speed up the translation process. We use state-of-the-art CAT systems such as term databases and translation memories. But our team of over 2,000 specialist translators also means we can use several translators simultaneously in one project. One of our project managers coordinates and optimises their cooperation. Then, the final result is reviewed once again for linguistic consistency.

Although large works cannot be translated overnight, we are able to translate them much faster than smaller translation agencies can.
