Translations of Technical Documention
Complex details, easy to understand.
No question: 2020 was a difficult year for German foreign trade. But since 2021, the domestic market seems to be recovering and exports are up and running again. The demand for translations of technical documentation is increasing again as well. As a professional translation agency, we understand how important details and terminology in these technical texts are.
That’s why we assign each project to those specialist translators who are expertly trained and have a lot of experience with texts from the respective industry. We also use termbases and translation memories to ensure accurate and consistent translations, even across different documents. A neat side effect: It reduces the turnaround time – and frequently the price, too.

Technical documentation with consistent terminology
Term databases and translation memories.
We regularly build term databases, especially for medium-sized and large companies. These databases contain a list of all terms and concepts that are relevant to the company and its documentation.
If new texts are to be translated, they are compared with the database entries. This speeds up the translation process, as the appropriate technical terms are inserted automatically. In addition, the process ensures the consistent use of terminology across different documents, projects and translators.
If your company does not have any databases, we can build one from scratch in consultation with your engineers or technical writers. We can also cross-check your terminology with existing databases. For example, the European Union’s IATE (Interactive Terminology for Europe) database lists over one million standard-compliant translations of technical terms in different languages.
Many of the guidelines regarding the creation of technical documentation, which have been published by the European Commission in several languages, can also be used to support the creation of databases. The more than 30,000 standards of the German Institute for Standardisation can also help.
If you regularly produce technical documentation, you will benefit from our translation memory systems. They store not only individual technical terms, but also entire phrases, sentences, and passages and continuously compare them with new texts. If phrases or sentences occur repeatedly, they do not have to be translated again. Accordingly, the volume of text to be translated is reduced and with it the price for the translation.
Of course, it’s not a problem if you simply have a one-off project. Whether it is internal or external technical documentation, we assign the best translator in our network.
Creating technical documentation
What to consider: an example.
Technical documentation need to follow very specific guidelines. These vary not only with the type of documentation, but also with the type of products and the specialist areas. This video discusses, for example, what to consider when creating operating instructions for technical equipment and where to find the relevant guidelines.
Technical documentation in 42 languages
Better comprehension. More safety.
Whether you need a one-off translation of a technical document or are looking for a partner who can provide you with long-term support: with our network of over 2,000 specialist translators, we are the right partner for you. Why us? Well, here are four reasons:
1) We take the type of document into account. After all, texts aimed at fitters or engineers have completely different requirements than those aimed at end consumers. Installation instructions are different from user manuals.
2) On request, we can create individual term databases or compare your terminology with the databases of the European Union or the requirements of various DIN standards.
3) By using terminology databases and translation memories, we can deliver translations faster and keep your costs low.
4) Our translators are not only native speakers and familiar with your target market, they are also technically knowledgeable. After all, whether sentences in a language are clearly understood is not only a linguistic matter, but also a cultural and a technical one.
With affordable, precise and standard-compliant technical translations, we ensure that your customers understand your technical documentation, no matter where they are in the world. Even localisation within countries is possible, for example for English and French technical documentation for the Canadian market.
